“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
– Walt Disney
This is one of my favorite quotes, as it really establishes the drivers and passion for an organization. Think about it…. If people are passionate about the mission, and are having fun while doing it, you have that same attitude of fun.
Why is this important? You need to have everyone aligned, engaged, and wanting to stay and be successful in order to accomplish your goals. This drives a sense of teamwork and helping each other out to achieve goals, which is critical for high performance work teams. People want to come to work, stay with the organization and are driven for results.
How do you get there? This is a delicate dance and not that easy. You need to maintain a professional work environment and accomplish goals… BUT… allow the laughter and set aside for good team bonding exercises. It needs to be REAL… part of your felt leadership needs to drive the sense of purpose and acknowledge the people behind the processes.
Some of my teams that I have worked with had this sense of camaraderie and adventure. They collaborated spontaneously with each other, and stuff got done. These folks still hold a special place in my heart…
As a leader, take the time to think about your teams and how to live the motto…
…and have some fun along the way.
